Connection through Creativity
Elemental Claycation is an immersive pottery retreat for groups of people to connect through creating while in the pottery studio. The groups are minimum three to maximum six people who are willing to stay in a shared accommodation space in the newly renovated third floor attic space of a 104 year old heritage house. You will spend the weekend learning the ins and outs of creating functional pottery items. What does that really mean? Marea will teach four different pottery techniques throughout the weekend in the basement studio. There are pottery wheels where you will learn how to throw your own cups and bowls. You will also learn how to hand build items only using your hands and techniques shown. Participants will learn how to glaze their creations and load and unload a pottery kiln through the retreat. No experience in pottery is needed. All materials are provided. Marea has 25 years teaching experience in teaching Visual Art in the public system to grades Kindergarten to grade 12. She has 20 years of pottery creating in her own studio, and spent many years teaching workshops in and out of the studio to small groups.
The theme of this retreat is based around the four elements; Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. You will sleep and gather in the third floor attic that was renovated specifically for this experience. The three directional view of the Saskatchewan prairie sky will provide opportunities to see a sunrise and a sunset high up in the air. Your group will create in the basement studio working with clay (earth). Water is a key element to throwing on the pottery wheel as well as creating each hand built piece. All the pottery gets fired in a kiln.
